NOTE:
Given the roles of Janil (in particular Minister of State for Communications and Information and also for Health, Chairman of PAP youth wing and the Party Whip), the following failure to gate-keep where he is responsible has resulted in him having a lower scoring.
Failure to classify the CNA documentary " Regardless of Sexuality" as "M18" rating on online platforms. This is despite numerous feedback from concerned citizens, which eventually only resulted in an “M18” rating on meWATCH, but not on the rest of the online platforms, such as YouTube. This is in breach of the promise MCI made in view of the repeal of 377A to protect younger audiences*. Failure to appropriately classify content is especially dangerous as children have easy access to the internet and may find or stumble upon inappropriate material which influences them without proper adult guidance. Instead of safeguarding the interests of children and youth in his appointed roles, his lack of action has instead exposed them to the risks of LGBTQ ideology which could have been avoided.
*MCI’s press statement on 22 August 2022 "IMDA regulate content to protect younger audience from age-inappropriate content and LGBT media content will continue to warrant higher age ratings."

2023: Host for documentary about LGBTQ issues
For the first time on national TV, LGBT individuals, their parents, and religious leaders get personal for a frank discussion on the rift that divides them. Join Janil Puthucheary, chairman of OnePeople.sg as he gets them to open up on how LGBT issues have deeply affected their lives and lives of people they care for. Through these candid conversations, Janil hopes to answer: what does it take for LGBT individuals to reconcile their sexuality with family, faith and community – in a society that is just beginning to find its footing in accommodating them?

Criticism of documentary
Perhaps there was a meeting in some Mediacorp boardroom by well-meaning corporate executives to commission a documentary to tease out nuances and different perspectives and to encourage more thoughtful discourse.
What was eventually produced, however, was riddled with ambiguous terms, perpetuated misconceptions, and missed discussing the important dynamic between LGBTQ activism, ideologies and its impact on larger society entirely.

2024: Told LGBTQ activists to "fight, stand up for what you believe in"
Mr Tan had asked Dr Puthucheary what his message was to Singapore’s LGBTQ youth who “do not believe that there is a future for them here” because of certain “barriers to inclusion” — which include home ownership and family formation.
“My message is stay, fight, stand up for what you believe in — in a way that brings inclusion, brings every Singaporean with you on that journey, and to make our society better for your community,” Dr Puthucheary said.

Criticism of Janil's statement
In truth, the issue here is not that SMS Janil was encouraging civic participation. It’s that he had such weak moral fibre that he thought it right to encourage an ideology which has proven to be authoritarian, censorious, and aggressive in its civic takeover in the West.
